the opposing aircraft is approaching head on, the aspect
    angle is 180 degrees and the indicator will be at the top
    of the aiming reticle.
astern   Behind a ship; to the rear.
Atoll   Soviet-built, rear aspect heat-seeking missile.
attack geometry   The spatial relationship between an
    attacking pilot and his quarry.
attitude   The position of an airplane's longitudinal and
    lateral axes relative to the horizontal; i.e., the position
    of the nose and wings with respect to a horizontal plane
    of reference.
AWACS    Airborne Warning And Control System, the     
    Boeing E-3 Sentry.
axial flow engine    A gas turbine that uses a compressor to
    force air rearward straight through a series of rotating
    and stationary blades.
azimuth   Horizontal direction or bearing.

ball   The primary optical landing aid aboard an aircraft 
    carrier.  (See  FLOLS.)
bandit   A plane identified as an enemy aircraft.
